About

The environmentally conscious messenger of style and culture, since 2018.

On the dunes of Long Island's south shore

To us, thoughtful style is about knowing the origins of the things we choose to wear and keep. Land Sky Sea highlights a small, curated selection of responsibly produced goods through photography and storytelling: pieces chosen for their design, for the honesty of the people making them, and for how long they will last.

The journal began in 2018 on the south shore of Long Island, where we photographed swimwear, sandals, sunglasses and jewelry from makers who could tell us exactly where and by whom their work was made. Those features, and the archive of objects that came with them, are here in full. New stories, and a section on places worth the trip, are on the way.

Land Sky Sea sells nothing. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no gifted-product reviews. When we link, we link straight to the maker.

How we choose

What makes the cut.

  1. 01

Made by someone who will tell you where

We favour makers who name their workshops, their materials and their people. A vague "ethically sourced" is not enough.

  2. 02

    Designed to be kept

Classic proportions, repairable construction, materials that improve with wear. Trend pieces do not appear here.

  3. 03

    Honest about the rest

Every maker’s claim on this site is labelled as theirs. Where we have seen a certification, we say which one. Where we have not, we say that too.

  4. 04

    Photographed by us

Our features are shot by us, on location or in the studio. Product photography in the archive comes from the makers with their permission.

  5. 05

    Nothing for sale

We sell nothing and take no commission. Prices shown are what the maker listed at the time we featured the piece.
