Fun fact: Going organic can conserve upwards of 90% more water than conventional cotton farming methods – and it helps to support local biodiversity by eliminating the chemicals and pesticides traditionally used in cotton farming, which is currently responsible for 25% of the world’s pesticide use. Also, it is naturally hypoallergenic.
Outerknown is dedicated to design that is both environmentally thoughtful and ethically produced – using recycled materials and ensuring safe working environments with fair compensation for workers manufacturing their garments.
11 time World Surf League Champion, Kelly Slater and acclaimed designer, John Moore founded Outerknown with the belief that we have a responsibility to make clothing that respects the world around us.
For over two decades, Kelly and John were on the front lines of fashion, seeing firsthand the massive impact the industry had on the environment. There came a point where they realized the clothes they were designing and wearing were part of the problem. They wanted to be part of the solution.
“What if we could design the kinds of clothes we love to wear in a more conscious way? That’s the question we’re answering every day. We founded Outerknown to change the game and create clothing that not only reflects our style but also our values.”
Outerknown is deeply committed to what they call ‘responsible innovation’; maintaining transparency and focussing on sustainable materials, such as through partnerships with ECONYL®, as well as ensuring all workers are safe and fairly compensated.
