Bembien brings consumers a collection of woven bags handmade by artisans around the world. 

Founder Yi-Mei Truxes was on her way to work when a woman in a white linen dress holding a straw bag stopped her in her tracks. There was something about that image — a woman and her bag — that encapsulated more effortless style and intelligent beauty than Yi-Mei had witnessed in her 6 years working at Vogue Magazine. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was, but it was there. 

After failed searches within the mainstream fashion markets for a bag that evoked this same feeling, Yi-Mei started seeing glimmers of the “woman in the white dress” in the small, artisanal weaving villages located around the world. Bembien was born. From Bali to Morocco and Vietnam, Bembien aims to promote the cultures of these incredible international weaving communities. 

10% of Bembien proceeds go to Nest, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) committed to the social and economic advancement of global artisans and homeworkers through supply chain transparency, sustainable business development, and widespread industry advocacy.
